Job Description
Key Result Areas:
Perform original and complex copy cataloging of print and electronic resources to ensure accuracy of database.
Ensure quality of bibliographic records through compliance with international and local standards such as RDA, MARC, AACR2r, LCSH, LCCS, OCLC, RDA, LC cataloging practices and other appropriate cataloging and metadata standards.
Download, edit and upgrade data files and MARC records from vendors and bibliographic utilities into the Library Management System.
Upload the Qatar National Library holdings into the OCLC database to improve access to the information held in libraries around the globe.
Contribute to the development of procedures and policies for the Technical Services Department by identifying and communicating issues encountered while performing daily activities.
Provide recommendations for the improvement and streamlining of processes.
Verify the accuracy of incoming shelf ready resource records and ensure physical processing standards are met.
Perform ongoing maintenance to preserve the integrity of the database.
Maintain statistics and prepare reports as required.
Order processing and cataloging supplies and maintain inventory list to ensure proper quantity, compatibility and condition of supplies.
Supervise, train and mentor Library Technicians and Library Assistants to enhance job knowledge and work skills.
Serve on designated committees.
Perform miscellaneous duties and conduct special projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science or appropriate Library Diploma
Minimum three years’ experience in a technical services cataloging environment
Knowledge of international cataloging standards such as Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (AACR2R) and RDA, Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH), LCRis, MARC 21.
Experience in copy cataloging of print and electronic resources.
Experience in print and electronic serials cataloging.
Experience with Millennium library management system is preferred.
Strong public service commitment to library users.
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
Strong organizational, analytical and communication skills in both oral and written English. Arabic language skills would be useful.
Ability to be flexible, open-minded and comfortable with changing responsibilities and duties as new and additional needs become known.
