Marketing and Communications Directorate invites applications for the position of Communications Specialist. Reporting to the Manager, Communications, the Communications Specialist must be a proven leader with the skills and expertise necessary to support the Marketing and Communications Directorate in fully implementing the University’s mission and vision.
Duties & Responsibilities:
This position requires an energetic and enthusiastic individual who will contribute to projects and activities related to media and corporate publications (including social media) and maintain effective communication with stakeholders in order to raise the profile of UDST regionally and internationally in the higher education sector.
The successful candidate will create, copywrite and translate UDST content for different types of channels to ensure consistency in the messages and contribute to accurate distribution of UDST news, publications and information through relevant internal and external media platforms.
The successful candidate will support in the writing and distribution of marketing and promotional materials and press releases for various print and social media channels and maintain strong working relationships with media stakeholders to encourage positive digital media, tv , radio and press coverage of UDST.
The incumbent of this position will facilitate response to media requests for interviews, photos and other information to ensure positive, accurate and timely promotion of UDST.
The successful candidate will support in media training for Senior Management and Academic Staff and assist in the research and writing of speaking notes for UDST executives and external guests for corporate events and press conferences.
The successful candidate will liaise with all business units to share information and identify good news stories and accomplishment that can be communicated to strengthen brand positioning and monitor external news reports escalating complex issues or negative press to the Manager, Communications.
In addition, the successful candidate will research new media ideas for distribution of information and identify new online and offline promotional opportunities.
Education and Certifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Communications required
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in Communications, or related field
Fluency in written and spoken English language is required
Fluency in written and spoken Arabic language is required
Other Required Skills:
Professional and friendly nature and a proactive attitude to work is required. Possessing good organizational skills, with the ability to prioritise work and manage time effectively, is essential. The incumbent should also have analytical thinking and problem solving, along with the ability to demonstrate explanatory communication and interpersonal skills. Fluency in English language is required and Arabic is required.
