Renewables, ESG & Climate Finance Expert – Islamic Development Bank , Jaddah , Saudi Arabia

JOB PURPOSE:
The role holder is responsible for providing all necessary support to Lead of Business Unit, Sovereign Risks Underwriting Senior Manager, Underwriting Department in projects’ / transactions’ assessment & processing, centered on renewables, ESG and climate change.
She/he is required to support the Business Development teams in identifying new business opportunities for ICIEC in the market, with a view to making a substantive impact on renewables, sustainability and climate change agenda in the market. The position holder is required to innovate ICIEC’s product applications to be more marketable to institutional investors; achieve business targets; and grow ICIEC’s business in renewables, ESG and climate finance. She/he should work closely with other global networks of practitioners to contribute to and share knowledge and best practices. She/he will also be responsible for working with a broad range of public and private sector stakeholders to identify climate business opportunities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
General Responsibilities:
The Senior Underwriter will play a primary role in increasing ICIEC’s pipeline of climate finance projects. He / She will be responsible for helping the Business Development teams in project/client identification and targeting, leading origination, deal structuring, as well as assessing and executing the insurance cover in coordination with the concerned departments and functions.
This role also involves frequent interaction with top government officials and contacts in other international organizations, private sector companies, financial institutions, counterparts within and across sectors and networks.

Underwriting Responsibilities:
• Contributes to the development of ICIEC’s Business Strategy on renewables, ESG & Climate Finance including action plans and workstreams for implementation, with focus on supporting the Business Development teams in origination, product development, and innovation as well as underwriting applications, undertaking due diligence tasks, review of documentation and closing transactions efficiently.
• Be accountable for developing climate finance portfolio with focus on innovation.
• Develops close networks with various climate finance investors and advisors to leverage and expand ICIEC’s presence, relationships, and potential partners in this space.
• Develops and implements strategies to target sub-sectors and priority areas such as climate mitigation projects.
• Represents ICIEC at conferences or other events to market ICIECs services and products; organize client roundtables and workshops;
• Advises ICIEC’s Management Team on renewables, ESG & climate finance strategies as needed;
• Structures deals including complex transactions and assesses projects’ risks;
• Guides clients on completing ICIEC applications and insurance cover processes;
• Works with ICIEC’s Business Development Department teams and other colleagues as needed when a new application is received to facilitate the underwriting of transactions and to ensure excellent client service;
• Undertakes full underwriting responsibilities, including analysis of project risks;
• Leads project due diligence missions, including evaluating the financing structure of the project as well as reviewing legal documents and financial models, focusing on climate aspects;
• Assesses the degree and types of commercial and non-commercial risks (political risks and sovereign risks) inherent in investments and determine whether these risks should be covered and under what terms and conditions;
• Shares knowledge and expertise, including organizing in-house workshops within and outside the Corporation;
• Contributes to developing ICIEC’s marketing materials for climate finance projects;
• Be ready to travel as needed to pursue opportunities in the areas above;
• Collaborates with other Departments within ICIEC and IsDB Group Entities to develop synergy and deliver high level business results.

Reporting
• Prepares all relevant reports (weekly, monthly, annual etc.) relevant to the Division, as needed, for review by the Lead of Business Unit or the Senior Manager, Underwriting Department and other key stakeholders.
