The Art & Design Technology Technician’s main responsibility is to provide support to teachers in the Visual Art Department and to liaise with the other technicians in order to ensure the efficient running of the department. Duties include such diverse areas as the preparation of canvases and boards for painting, framing of pupil art, ordering & collection of art materials, organisation of equipment storage and art supplies, ensuring equipment and machinery across the department works correctly, display of artwork around the school and exhibitions and corridor display spaces. It is envisaged that duties will be conducted on the basis of their given priority and with assistance from the Head of department. Within this context, the Art & DT Technician will be a committed and professional member of the team in the School, enhance the excellent reputation of the Visual Art department.
• Knowledge of Art Materials, Art Equipment and Design Technology machinery
• Understanding of Relative order and tidiness in the Art School studios
• Experience in Working in a school environment
• Good communication skills (visual, verbal and written) for dealing with colleagues, and questions from pupils
• Organised and diligent

The technician is responsible for fixing and running all machinery such as the 3D printer, Laser cutter, Lathe, Changing blades on the band saw, changing belts on sanding machines, cleaning and washing equipment is also part of the job. Preparing materials for the lessons, helping support the teacher in class, being in charge of the health and safety in the department is also a main role. You will also be in charge of stock taking and organizing rooms.
A can-do attitude, drive, flair, a team-spirit and patience is expected. The successful candidate need not hold an Art Degree though an interest in Art and in practical skills and Machinery is important.
