Georgetown University-Qatar (GU-Q) is looking for Teaching Assistants who will work with key first-year courses, Arabic language courses or special courses in support of student learning and success. The position will support student engagement with and understanding of course materials and exercises through class attendance and interaction, review of materials, feedback to students, coordination with faculty, and consultation with students. Teaching Assistants will develop strategies and expertise in learning facilitation through on-going training, supervision and mentoring as part of an interdisciplinary student success unit.
As this position is based in Doha, Qatar and offers no relocation assistance, GU-Q is looking for locally based candidates only, ideally a recent college graduate and/or a current post-graduate student. This is a part-time (20 hours a week) non-sponsored position that requires all applicants to already have the necessary sponsorship to live and work in Qatar. This is a term appointment expected to continue through May 2020.
There are several vacancies available.
Attend class meetings and complete readings for assigned courses;
Communicate and collaborate with GU-Q faculty and Office of Academic Services (OAS) staff;
Participate in training, supervision and mentoring sessions;
Hold office hours to assist students with course work;
Assist assigned professors with in-class discussions;
Assist assigned professors with monitoring class attendance;
Assist assigned professors with exam proctoring;
Assist assigned professors with course LMS;
Assist assigned professors with grading, if appropriate;
Conduct review sessions, if required;
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline relevant to the BSFS program; GUQ degree preferred.
Master’s degree, completed or in progress, is preferred.
Experience as a Teaching Assistant, Instructor or Tutor.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Knowledge of the Canvas Learning Management Systems (LMS).
Superior performance and engagement as an undergraduate/graduate student.
Native Arabic language skills required for certain courses.
High level of fluency in English required for all courses.
