Consortium Safety Case Engineer – Civil infrastructure – Riyadh – Saudi Arabia – Siemens AG

Project Overview
The BACS consortium is responsible for the design and build of Lines 1 and 2 of the Riyadh Metro network. These two lines will form part of the six-line metro system that will run for a total length of 176 kilometers across the city and includes 85 stations.

Position Summary:
The Consortium Safety Case Engineer – Civil is responsible for assisting the Safety Case Manager in the development of the Design & Final Safety Cases with particular reference to the civil infrastructure including associated M&E systems.

What are my responsibilities?
This position is responsible to the Consortium Safety Case Manager for ensuring that:
The civil infrastructure elements of the Consortium Design & Final Safety Cases are developed in accordance with the project programs and to the requisite standard.
Evidence is compiled confirming that the defined system safety requirements are met by the civil infrastructure, including associated M&E systems, during all phases of the project.
The Safety Case inputs related to the civil infrastructure meet the provisions of the Technical Specification Volume 2.2 Part 4 Safety Requirements.
Work effectively with the civil infrastructure system safety and engineering managers with discretion and diplomacy and be able to influence outcomes with good judgement.
Influence the civil infrastructure safety and engineering managers to provide safety case input and supporting documentation so that it can be compiled to meet the requirements of the Design & Final Safety Cases within the constraints of limited timescales.
Operate under the minimum of supervision and apply high standards of integrity and responsibility.
Create and maintain effective working relationships at all levels.
Set own targets within overall project objectives and be thorough, conscientious and hard-working.
Communicate effectively to ensure that the safety case requirements are understood by the civil infrastructure system safety managers and that appropriate evidence is provided to the ICP/ISA and ADA/RMTC

Other Job duties:
Assist with authoring the Design & Final Safety Cases and coordinate Safety Case inputs including the results of supporting hazard analysis and safety studies such as fire, emergency provisions, materials and human factors.
Compile the safety case evidence to support the development and issue of the Consortium Design and Final Safety Cases.
Monitor the progress of the preparation of supporting references and Safety Case inputs.
Review and provide comments on the civil infrastructure system and subsystem Safety Case submissions and supporting system safety reports.

What do I need to qualify for this job?
University degree (Dipl. / Bsc. Eng. or higher) in an engineering related subject, preferably with a railway or system safety specialization.
A minimum of 5 years applied system safety engineering experience including major engineering projects in the railway industry.
Experience of preparing System Safety Cases and supporting evidence to meet EN 50129 and associated contractual requirements.
Knowledge and experience of system safety analysis techniques, engineering safety processes and standards including EN 50126 and EN 50128.
Understanding of railway related infrastructure and in particular railway civil structures and associated M&E systems including track, building services, fire protection systems and lifts & escalators. A working knowledge of NFPA 130 and civil engineering design principles would be an advantage.
