Summary:
The Principal Engineer Broadcast System is responsible for applying value engineering to provide scalable, robust, reliable, resilient, and flexible solution design based on editorial, operations, and creative teams’ requirements and technically maximize investments made on systems. You will conduct periodic technical system audits to determine whether the optimization is required by comparing them to the latest technological advancements that will improve system performance at lower operations costs.
You will provide high‐level solution design and analysis with justification for implementing the solution within the broadcast sections. You will constantly evaluate proposed system design and configuration/upgrading/updating of existing and proposed systems.
You are responsible for providing L2/L3 support to the front‐line support team and coordinating vendors and service integrators for fault analysis. Always up to date on the latest and trendiest technologies in the media industry, including but not limited to: cloud‐based & remote production, SMPTE2110‐based workflows, NDI technology, virtualized broadcast appliances, and related software‐defined infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:
Perform L2/L3 deep technical support to render broadcast first level support for ON AIR broadcast systems that have persisting service affecting problems, or design flaws.
Participates in the coordination of vendors and service integrators in the design and delivery of new and repaired broadcast equipment
Lead broadcast engineering support team during execution of the preventive and corrective maintenance plan as well as BCP/DR drills and suggest improvements with implementation plan
Recommend approval to the expert for all system designs, drawings and solutions proposed in compliance with Al Jazeera established project guidelines
Recommends solution, system design and upgrade requirements for validation by the Expert
Apply value engineering to provide scalable, robust, reliable, resilient and flexible solution design based on end‐users requirements
Conduct periodic technical system audit to determine whether optimization required by comparing them to latest technological advancement that will lead to improved system performance at lower operations cost
Provides high‐level solution design and analysis with justification for implementing the solution within the broadcast systems section:
Analyses and identifies solution issues, system limitations and submit recommendations and justifications for re‐engineering solutions and design covering the broadcast areas: ON AIR graphics and creative systems; VSM Routing & Control system; GrassValley Video Routers; Riedel Talkback; Station’s Master Clock; Glue and other equipment installed in Central Apparatus CAR Rooms; Vizrt all system support including Viz Engines & Clients, Viz Mosart, Immersive System, Viz Weather, Viz Social, Viz One; IHSE KVM system etc.; Central TX full support including Pebble Beach Automation System, Harmonics & EVS video Servers, CTX Video Mixer, CTX output chain etc.; Central MCR Broadcast related system Support Studio Lightings including Lighting consoles, DMX Network and Lighting rigs’ All Studios and Gallery equipment support including Calrec Audio Mixer, Sony Vision Mixer, Video Walls, Studio Cameras, Vinten Robotic System, Shnick Shnack & Martin LED System etc
Analyses system upgrades proposals and recommend alternative solution to optimize system design and configuration with cost‐effective approach
Constantly evaluates proposed System Design and Configuration of existing and proposed systems
Oversee the Review and Validates Project Technical evaluation and clarifications before sending to bidders to ensure consistency with the end‐user requirements and compliance with industry standards and Al Jazeera established guidelines
Analyses and recommends all design modification and change requests of projects based on the change in requirement
Conducts technology survey available in the Market to determine latest innovations and cost‐effective solutions
Performing incident, problems, tasks and change management according to best practices and industry standards with compliance to ITIL/ITSM framework and procedures
Job Requirements:
Minimum 10 years’ experience in Broadcast Engineering and relevant equipment’s operation / maintenance; 5 years Projects Experience related to Broadcast/Broadcast IT domain
Bachelor’s degree in Electronics/Telecommunication/Computer Engineering

Tapeless environment in fast paced News production system
Conventional and modern broadcast technologies (Audio/Video Routers, TX automation systems, Play‐out Technologies and On‐Air Graphics)
IP based studios production that is deployed in broadcast industry
SMPTE/EBU standards and terminology behind IP Standards used in TV industry
Broadcast/broadcast IT infrastructure and understanding for Broadcast system cabling installation requirements.
The inter‐site fiber connectivity(detail of Connectors types used in IT/Network/Broadcast industry) its understanding of single mode/Multimode of that is deployed in large organization
Television systems and theory, analog and digital communications and digital television transmission.
SD/HD /3G/4K & Aspect Ratios and their conversion techniques.
Studio Operations, Audio/Video Mixers, Video Walls
Emerging technologies within the broadcast industry
Complex technical drawings and reports
Basic measurement and test instruments for Audio and Video signals.
AutoCAD, Visio to modify/Create Engineering drawings.
