Senior Fuel Reliability Engineer – Nawah Energy Company , UAE

Job Purpose:
Develop and implement Nuclear Fuel Integrity Program and Nuclear Fuel Reliability Manual in order to prevent fuel failure and comply with Barakah Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) Fuel Reliability Policy (zero fuel failure). Monitor radiochemistry results of reactor coolant and core conditions during normal operation to minimize the consequences of a fuel failure.

Key Activities and Responsibilities: –
Nuclear Fuel Reliability
Develop and implement Fuel Integrity Program and Fuel Reliability Manual to ensure excellence in nuclear fuel performance and reliability.
Apply the Fuel Receipt Implementation Plan (FRIP) to ensure operational readiness and errorless fuel receipt campaign.
Develop, review and assess fuel management procedures and recommends improvements, if required, to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and industrial best practices and minimize the likelihood of fuel handling events to maintain the highest standards in fuel integrity.
Perform an independent review of fuel and core design analyses to guarantee adequate fuel margins in terms of fuel reliability to guarantee excellence in nuclear fuel performance and reliability.
Prepare for and support International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) pre-Operational Safety Assessment Review Team (OSART) and World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) Pre-Start Up Review (PSUR) assessment to ensure alignment with standards.
Conduct self-assessment for operational readiness in fuel management field to evaluate current gaps and capabilities for continuous improvement.
Conduct surveillance on design and fabrication activities for current fuel vendor and set up a fuel vendor transition plans to validate alignment with operational standards.
Verify reactor coolant and spent fuel pool chemistry remain within specifications in order to maintain safety and operational excellence.
Liaise with ENEC Nuclear Fuel Management (NFM) implementing failed fuel action plan in order to cope with fuel failure incident.
Lead the preparation and implementation of the Failed Fuel Action Plan required to support the fuel reliability manual to ensure excellence in nuclear fuel performance and reliability.
Ensure mitigating and minimizing the effects of fuel failure through support to Operations such as increased letdown flow, depressing local power, and decrease power level.
Develop and guide the implementation of operational strategies to support fuel reliability e.g., Zinc Injection, fuel integrity analysis, etc.
Review and provide updates to fuel reliability guidance and tutorial handbook in order to maintain current and accurate information.
Respond to appropriate organization when fuel related anomalies happen to ensure safety and transparency.
Execute proactive efforts to improve operating practices to reach the highest standards in fuel integrity and reliability.
Track and monitor fuel integrity parameters during normal operation to trace Fuel Reliability Index (FRI).
Support Foreign Material Exclusion (FME) activities in fuel handling areas to secure fuel integrity.
Participate in fuel loading activities and control of fuel location map in fuel storage area to ensure safety and fuel reliability.

Ensure compliance with corporate requirements for adherence to policies, procedures and instructions related to Crisis Management and Business Continuity in order to continue mission critical activities.

Contribute to the development of UAE National employees in a manner which supports the objectives of the corporation and its Emiratization strategy.
Contribute to knowledge dissemination/sharing in a way that assists with building internal capabilities of UAE Nationals where applicable and maximize their effective performance.

Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma (or Equivalent) Degree in Engineering or related Science.
At least 8 years of relevant experience
Engineering or Science
