As EVMC Master Farrier:
Lead EVMC Podiatry department
Provide orthopedic and therapeutic foot care to equine patients of EVMC
Manage staff farriers maintaining foot care of Al Shaqab horses
Develop the EVMC farrier academy

Requirements
Education: BS, BA or BSc or equivalent, preferably in the science/biology field of study
Experience: Minimum of 15 years full-time farrier. Minimum of 3 years orthopedic farrier work at a podiatry center working with veterinarians.
Specific skills: Professional level of horsemanship. Ability to make a variety of therapeutic shoes and understand the biomechanics of how and why they are used. Ability to weld steel and aluminum using MIG or TIG machines. Ability professionally discuss radiographs with veterinarians. Moderate level teaching skills. Inventory organizational skills.
Technical or content knowledge: Expert in orthopedic podiatry preferably having obtained the AWCF level certification from the Worshipful Company of Farriers (WCF).
Language skills: Mastery of English, moderate level writing skills with the ability to draft and edit a variety of written reports and communications and to articulate ideas clearly and concisely
Computer skills: Proficiency in MS Office applications

Description
Leadership of the Podiatry department at EVMC, including setting objectives, recruitment and management of staff, quality and performance management.
As an expert in equine hoof-care, the Master Farrier is expected to contribute expertise and experience opinion to clinical caseload where relevant.
Develop and maintain a customer base within Al Shaqab and with external clients. Maintain communication with clients to discuss hoof health issues and scheduling of horses on a monthly basis.
Improve the standard of foot care for horses in Al Shaqab by supervising farrier assistants and reviewing non-routine cases. Provide advice and guidance on hoof-care as required.
Ensure the overall financial sustainability of the Podiatry department by sourcing cost effective materials, developing client relations and reviewing prices of podiatry services on an ongoing basis. Propose opportunities to increase revenue or improve customer service where possible.
Responsible for health and safety of staff and members of the public in and around the farrier workshop. Educate farrier assistants in best practice use of equipment. Develop SOPs for the Podiatry Department.
Develop ‘Farrier Academy’ with a curriculum of short farrier training courses, to develop skills in local and regional farriers and to educate local horse owners on the importance and benefit of farrier services.
Responsible for sourcing, ordering, distribution and organization of podiatry consumables, with Procurement staff.
Represent EVMC at conferences, meetings and workshops locally and internationally. Contribute to continuing professional development.
Conduct relevant podiatry related scientific and academic research. Contribute to other EVMC research projects where relevant. Contribute to equine and veterinary scientific knowledge with research and articles.
