Job Description
The College of the North Atlantic – Qatar is inviting nominations and applications for the position of Student Counselling Specialist in the Student Success and Counselling Department. Reporting to the Student Life and Counselling Supervisor, the Student Counselling Specialist must be a proven leader with the skills and expertise necessary to support the Student Affairs Department in fully implementing the College’s mission and vision.

Duties & Responsibilities:
This position requires an energetic and enthusiastic individual who will provide individual counselling services to students experiencing difficulties that may create barriers to their well being and academic success at the College. The incumbent will also develop and deliver workshops and campus-wide initiatives to raise awareness on issues experienced by students and promote positive mental health.
Candidates should have an outstanding record of experience working in counselling or related field, preferably within a higher education environment and possess the qualifications necessary to be successful in the role of Student Counselling Specialist. The successful candidate is responsible to provide a high standard of individual counselling, which may involve variety of brief and/or long-term interventions determined in collaboration with the student to meet goals such as academic success, personal growth and development, health and well-being, self-advocacy and empowerment.

Candidates will be responsible to maintain rapport with students by ensuring a safe environment and offering support in a timely and professional manner. Candidates will ensure confidentiality of case records, participate in regular student review and case-management processes in liaison with other counsellors and support academic support initiatives such as the Peer Tutoring Program and student success workshops to contribute to student academic achievement and professional development.
Candidates will promote positive mental health and well-being through campus-wide initiatives and workshops, advice faculty, employees, deans and executive regarding concerns related to student success and well-being, and contribute to the development of policies and procedures that impact student well-being.
The Student Counselling Specialist will act as an advocate for and with students on a case-by-case basis by raising student awareness of their rights and responsibilities, college policies and procedures and available resources. S/he will provide anonymous data on take-up and feedback of the service for contribution to Student Affairs reporting requirements, adhere to the professional code of ethics in all areas of practice, and maintain knowledge and expertise of emerging and current issues in counselling theory and practice through ongoing professional development to ensure students receive an excellent service.

Qualifications
Education and Certifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or a relevant field is required
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of student counselling experience
Language:
Fluency in written and spoken English language
Fluency in written and spoken Arabic language, is preferred.

Other Required Skills:
Strong leadership skills with a high standard of professional integrity and counselling expertise. A desire to achieve organizational success and to lead by example is required. A proactive can-do attitude to work and good time management is essential. The ability to think analytically and solve problems and a good attention to detail is required. The candidate should have the ability to anticipate change and effectively manage quality and risk at all times. Commitment to positive relationship building and effective working relationships across all levels of the organisations is required. Knowledge of Student Counselling and Student Success / Career Planning is required. Knowledge of Health and Wellness is desirable. A Commitment to ongoing training and continuous professional development is desirable. Candidates should demonstrate explanatory communication and interpersonal skills. Fluency in English language is required.
