Job Description
The University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) is a national university in Qatar and the only institution that offers applied degrees. The institution was founded in 2002 as the College of the North Atlantic in Qatar, and in fall of 2021 it officially began its transition into a university by introducing 20 Bachelor and 3 Master Degree programs in a wide range of technical and occupational areas including Business Management, Computing and Information Technology, Engineering Technology, Industrial Trades, and Health Sciences, which provide a high-quality mix of theory and applied vocational and occupational skills and competences, coupled with career-oriented, practical education and training. A number of these programs are accredited by professional bodies in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom.

The College of General Education provides a range of introductory courses to all students of UDST in subjects that support the academic structure of the academic programs. The General Education Curriculum is designed around core courses in mathematics, natural sciences, English communication, global awareness, social sciences, psychology and other elective studies, aimed at giving students a holistic understanding of fundamental concepts and their applications.
The College of General Education invites applications for full-time and part-time Lab Instructors in Biology, starting in July 2022.

Your commitment
Reporting to the Department Head, you will be teaching first-year Anatomy and Physiology and/or Microbiology Lab courses to students enrolled in Health Science programs. Course topics may include cellular structure, biochemistry, microbiology, human anatomy and physiology as well as general science. You will evaluate student progress and manage the resources of the learning environment and the laboratories. You will be responsible for developing teaching and assessment materials as well as keeping student records. You may also be asked to keep a course portfolio with documents required for program review and accreditation processes and engage in instructional development/improvement plans.

Qualifications
Preferred: MSc in Biology or a related field from a recognized, accredited institution.
Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology will also be considered if they have relevant teaching experience at the post-secondary or higher education level.
A minimum of 2 years teaching experience in a higher education environment, including teaching laboratory lessons.

Other Required Skills:
Candidates must demonstrate exemplary communication, interpersonal skills and fluency in English.
Knowledge and understanding of a variety of delivery methods and technology used in teaching biology laboratories.
Commitment to applied and experiential learning as a pedagogy is a key feature of the University’s mandate.
Knowledge of current teaching and learning methodologies and an ability to meet the needs of a diverse student population.
Digital literacy and demonstrated fluency in technology systems, and an ability to model and facilitate use of current and emerging digital tools to support teaching and learning, as well as research.
Demonstrated ability to develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable students to be active participants in their own learning.
Knowledge of Desire2Learn (D2L) and its programs, Zoom, MS Office 365 applications is an asset.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Collaborative and collegial spirit and a demonstrated ability to establish rapport with learners, colleagues, sponsor-employers, and members of the community.
