The College of the North Atlantic – Qatar is inviting nominations and applications for the position of Applied Research and Innovation (ARI), Academic Manager in the department of Academic Quality. Reporting to the Associate Vice President (AVP), Academic Quality, the Applied Research and Innovation (ARI), Academic Manager must be a proven leader with the skills and expertise necessary to support the department of Academic Quality in fully implementing the College’s mission and vision.

Duties & Responsibilities:
This position requires an energetic and enthusiastic individual who will manage applied research initiatives in a range of disciplines of direct relevance to solving issues of concern to industry, government and society, thereby contributing to the social and economic growth of the state of Qatar.
Candidates should have an outstanding record of experience in the field of applied research, and possess the qualifications necessary to be successful in the role of Applied Research and Innovation (ARI), Academic Manager. The successful candidate is responsible to contribute to the development of the Applied Research and Innovation policies and procedures, implement the ARI’s business plan in line with CNA-Q’s strategy and identify sources for research funding to support CNA-Q’s research community. Candidates will contribute to the annual budget and business planning process to ensure research initiatives and projects are in line with the college’s strategic plan.
Candidates will act as a liaison between the CNA-Q research community and Qatar’s government, industry and other sectors to foster relationships that innovatively problem solve for local community and industry. Responsibilities also include promoting CNA-Q student involvement in research activities using applied research as a vehicle for developing student research skills and workplace readiness, administering research projects and contracts to ensure fiscal responsibility and timely and accurate delivery of results, and vetting of research proposals and allocation of Applied Research funds in line with relevant policies and procedures.
Candidates will ensure compliance with relevant external applied research policies and procedures including ethics reviews and grant compliance reviews, communicate the accomplishments of applied research activities at CNA-Q through seminars, publications, etc. and forge partnerships with appropriate industry, business, agency, and government representatives in collaboration with the CNA-Q’s Committees and Schools to promote the generation of college applied research initiatives.
Candidates will review and analyze proposals submitted to determine if benefits derived and possible applications justify expenditures.
Candidates will provide professional development support and perform periodic performance reviews for direct subordinates to contribute to the development of employees, develop workforce plans for the ARI department in collaboration with the Human Resources Department and have excellent organizational, leadership, decision-making, delegation and communications skills as well as the ability to act as a mentor to team members.

Qualifications
Education and Certifications:
An earned doctorate, awarded from accredited institution in an appropriate field such as Engineering, Information Technology, Business, or Health Science, and a distinguished record of research appropriate to the rank of Associate or full Professor.

Experience:
Minimum 10 years of relevant experience.
Language:
Fluency in written and spoken English language.

Other Required Skills:
Demonstrably outstanding record of leadership and management in a post-secondary institution. Strong leadership skills with a desire to achieve organizational success and to lead by example is required. Collaborative decision-making and a high standard of professional integrity. A proactive can-do attitude to work and good time management is essential. The candidate should have the ability to anticipate change and effectively manage quality and risk at all times. Effective resource management is essential. Commitment to positive relationship building and effective working relationships across all levels of the organisations is required. Candidates should demonstrate explanatory communication and interpersonal skills. Fluency in English language is required; Fluency in Arabic language is an asset.
