Senior Lawyer, National Capital District, Maritime

BUSINESS/ FUNCTION PURPOSE FOR POSITION

Be primarily responsible for all aspects of legal advice, drafting, implementation and enforcement of construction and land development contract documents including ancillary financing, corporate and statutory compliance matters and otherwise assisting the Group Legal Counsel as instructed in relation to all other company legal matters.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

A. LEGAL ADVISORY WORK

Draft, negotiate, aid in implementation of all construction and development contracts where the company’s entity is a counterparty, to maximize legal and contractual rights and minimize risk
Advise on and manage all dispute matters arising out of construction and development contracts and projects including engaging and liaising with specialist external legal advisers in that regard
As directed by GLC provide legal advice to internal clients on other nominated areas of law which impact the company’s business operations, anticipate and guard against legal risk

B. LEGAL DEPARTMENT MANAGEMENT

Assist GLC as directed to supervise, coach, mentor team for peak self and professional development and performance as required
Assist GLC as directed to develop template and precedent documents and guide notes for standard form and repetitive transactional matters
Assist GLC as directed to select, monitor, and manage services of external legal advise

C. REPORTING

Provide timely reports on the status of construction and development matters and such other matters as so nominated by the company’s Full Board, to the various group company and advisory boards and executive managers on all matters within the Legal Department responsibility remit.

PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS

Tertiary qualification of Bachelor’s Degree in Law from an accredited tertiary institution; Restricted Practicing Certificate issued by PNG Law Society
Knowledge of all areas of law in which the company is involved with specialist knowledge in construction law
At least ten (10) years as a commercial lawyer with specialist expertise in front end construction matters
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Strong leadership and influencing skills and ability to manage and mentor a team to deliver quality work and service in a punctual manner.
