Conservation Technologist – Qatar Foundation – Doha, Qatar

Job Description
Key Result Areas:
Coordinate and implement the work for mass deacidification, disinfection and dry freezing. Being responsible of the maintenance of the mass treatment plants in contact with the vendors of the machines.
Conduct scientific analyses and research on heritage objects, using non-destructive techniques (Raman Spectroscopy – XRF, XRD, Fiber Optics Reflectance Spectroscopy, FTIR and other techniques)
Prioritize the workload, prepare objects, collect, organize, manage, and interpret data, prepare reports, and perform literature reviews.
Constant access to research published in the field of determining pigments and inks used in manuscripts, especially Islamic ones.
Constant access to the new, non-destructive technologies used in the completion of research on manuscripts – and making the most of the capabilities available in the scientific laboratory at Qatar National Library through constant access to research carried out using similar technologies.
Assist the Head of Preservation and conservation with the organization of seminars, symposia, and workshops to disseminate our research to the conservation community.
Present research findings at professional conferences and contribute to the publication of papers in journals.
Implement the preventive conservation strategy; organize the independent monitoring of all climatic, light and air quality condition during exhibition and any time to protect QNL collections. Provide periodic reports.
Work in cooperation with QNL and QF FM to extract data from the building climatic monitoring system. Work on analyzing data, studying expected problems and damages to heritage collection due to changes in temperature and humidity, and proposing solutions in cooperation with the concerned teams.
Coordinate the disaster preparedness and promote and communicate the plans.
Manage the chemicals and their wastes.
Setting standards, policy development, advocacy & advice.
Other tasks as assigned.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
2-5 years of relevant full-time work experience.
Must be able to operate analytical instrumentation including XRF, Raman, FTIR, XRD, FORS, etc.
Ability to communicate and present effectively to small and large groups at all levels of hierarchy
Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills in both oral and written English
Flexible and adaptable to fast changing environments
Good level of English expression and use of MSOffice tools
Excellent writing skills with the ability to draft and edit a variety of written reports and communications and to articulate ideas clearly and concisely; Arabic proficiency is an advantage
Proficiency in MS Office applications
