Outage Preparation Manager B – Nawah Energy , UAE

Job Description
To manage and lead the planning, preparation, and execution of forced and planned outages to ensure that the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) outages are planned and executed in accordance with industry best practice whilst ensuring the highest standards for nuclear and employee safety. Monitor preparation milestones to ensure they remain on track and confirm recovery plans are put in place for milestones that are at risk. To act as the point of contact for the oversight and management of the various labor, support and inter-departmental agreements with respect to outage preparation, execution, close out and stand down to ensure that the overall business and performance objectives are communicated and achieved.
Outage Management
– Establish management expectations including a robust safety culture providing personnel with an open environment to raise issues and concerns, to ensure that expectations are aligned throughout the department.
– Oversee the preparation phase for all planned and forced outages.
– Provide leadership and oversight of all aspects of the preparation milestone process which includes planning, scheduling, reporting, and cost forecasting.
– Establish effective management systems in the outage management organization to fulfill the Operating License and regulatory requirements.
– Maintain engagement in the nuclear industry, best practices, Operating Experience (OPEX) and Lessons Learned to foster a culture of continuous improvement within the Outage Management organization.
Outage Execution
– Manage outage milestones such that initiatives are being achieved, milestone product quality meets established standards, and prompt corrective actions are established for recovery plans.
– Ensure that actual performance is monitored against established performance criteria through various means such as self-assessments, performance monitoring programs, direct personal observation, and industry benchmarked Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
– Ensure that Nuclear Safety, including all aspects of Shutdown Safety, is the overriding priority during outage schedule development and outage execution.
– Modify and maintain the station systems and equipment and manage their performance in a manner which optimize equipment availability to ensure safety and long term reliability. (Recommend removal, as this is not applicable to function).
– Oversee the daily outage activities to ensure schedule development and outage preparation progress is being made consistent with the outage milestones and management objectives.
– Support post outage critiques by identifying any gaps in performance, safety near-miss issues, and any additional needed support to ensure resultant lessons learned are incorporated in future plant outages.
– Support execution of Forced Outage Program processes and procedures to ensure execution is safe and efficient in order to return the affected unit(s) to service.

Staff Training and Qualification
– Ensure staff meet the management expectations, standards, goals and objectives for training, and communicate these to all assigned personnel to support enhancing their capability and competence.
– Actively coach outage management staff and present management perspectives and nuclear operating experience to improve work performance
Budget
– Review and approve annual budget plan of the outage management organization, as well as planned unit outages and monitors financial performance versus the budget to ensure alignment.
Stakeholder Engagement
– Facilitate communication both internally and externally in order to build and nurture mutually beneficial working relationships.
– Ensure the correct relationship between outage work and daily work is maintained and teamwork is maximized in developing an Integrated Cycle Plan that includes online and outage work activities.
– Coordinate a close alignment with the Work Management and Outage Planning departments to ensure alignment of plant operability and scheduled work.
Health and Safety and Security
– Ensure compliance to all relevant health, safety and environmental management policies, procedures and controls across the Division/Department/Section by delivery of the Health and Safety Management Program to guarantee employee safety, legislative compliance, delivery of high quality service and a responsible environmental attitude.
– Follow all relevant Security policies, processes, procedures and instructions to ensure security compliance in all aspects of work, by applying them on self, others and Corporate assets.
– Ensure compliance with corporate requirements for adherence to policies, procedures and instructions related to Crisis Management and Business Continuity in order to continue mission-critical activities.
People Management
– Manage the effective achievement of the Organization’s objectives by setting individual targets, developing and motivating staff, and providing formal and informal constructive feedback and appraisal – in order to maximize subordinate and department performance.
– Contribute to the development of UAE National employees in a manner which supports the objectives of the corporation and its Emiratization strategy.
– Contribute to knowledge dissemination/sharing in a way that assists with building internal capabilities of UAE Nationals where applicable and maximize their effective performance.

Skills
Minimum
– Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other relevant discipline with 10 years of experience out of which 2 years in a Managerial role or equivalent as stated in the Job Description.
Preferred
– Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other relevant advanced degree with 10 years nuclear power plant experience out of which:
4 years in PWR nuclear power plant experience in operation stage, maintenance or engineering.
2 years in a supervisory role.
Technical Competency
– Ability to conceptualize, plan, develop, and manage the assigned programs for a multi-unit station.
– Understands nuclear power plant design and modification.
– Understands license basis requirements.
– Understands the responsibilities with regard to the plant modification and work control requirements of a nuclear power plant.
