MEAL / IT Assistant (1 position), Peace Winds Japan , Kenya

Peace Winds Japan (PWJ) is a Japanese Non-Governmental Organization established in 1996. PWJ has been providing humanitarian and development assistance for people affected by forced displacement and natural disasters in more than 20 countries in the world.

PWJ launched its mission in Kenya in 2012 and has been implementing projects funded by UN agencies and the government of Japan in shelter, WASH, food security, livelihood and logistics support to improve health and living environments of refugees and host populations while promoting peaceful coexistence and self-reliance among the people affected by natural or human made disasters in and adjacent of Dadaab refugee complex, Kakuma refugee camp and Kalobeyei Integrated Settlement.

PWJ is a UNHCR partner responsible for WASH, warehouse management, motor vehicle service unit, centralized fleet and Shelter for Dadaab Refugee Operations.

Purpose of the position

Reporting to the MEAL officer, the MEAL / IT Assistant will support in Support in strengthening the existing M&E system for the projects in the Dadaab operation. He / She will also be required to provide assistance in ICT technical support.

Roles and Responsibilities

Monitoring and Evaluation

Support in strengthening the existing M&E system for the projects in the Dadaab operation
Support in preparing weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual programmatic reports according to the donor requirements
Collect and systemize information on progress of each activity of a project being implemented, and input the information into database platform.
Ensuring accuracy of entered data and comparing it with the existing data to make sure all records are consistent and aligned.
Provide support in establishing and updating an M&E tracking database
Work closely with MEAL officer in monitoring and evaluation, data collection, interviews, surveys, data clarity and data delivery to the Program Coordinator
Lead in analyzing and compiling data to measure the progress and result of projects’ activities
Provide day-to-day verification of data quality and ensure all data is input into database platform and analyzed with integrity.
Work with MEAL staff and program teams to set up appropriate and functional community feedback mechanisms;
Support the documentation and sharing of program results, ensuring sharing of lessons learnt and good practices;
Undertake other related duties as may reasonably be assigned by the Supervisor

IT Assistant

Perform software installations and support day-to-day systems operations.(Operating systems, Microsoft office, and other application softwares)

Provide technical support to PWJ Dadaab staff

Offer trainings on NetSuite Oracle ERP, HR Systems and Microsoft Office applications to new users

Coordinate with IT Assistant in Nairobi to update all IT inventory as per the guidelines, policies, and procedures.

Installations of ICT software & systems and also conduct user training

Ensuring optimum IT security: Antivirus and ensured disaster recovery controls.

Maintain ICT Network Infrastructure including LAN, WAN, and wireless access points

Maintain an up-to-date database inventory of all ICT assets.

Managed outsourced ICT service providers to facilitate effective service delivery.

Control and maintain IT systems to minimize IT service downtime

Project Management – Plan, track and coordinate ICT projects from development through implementation working in coordination with the HQ ICT Assistant

Systems Audit – Ensure software and hardware updates are conducted regularly in accordance with needs of the organization

Require Qualifications

Experience and technical competencies:

Minimum of 2 years of work experience within the field of monitoring and evaluation;

Experience in participatory assessments and community-based monitoring approaches;

a clear understanding of Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS);

Experience with capacity building of staff, and in convening and facilitating trainings and workshops

Excellent knowledge of MS Office Word, Excel PowerPoint, and other Statistical software

Excellent analytical and report-writing skills (English)

Time management and organizational skills.

Previous work experience in hardship areas or emergency settings.

Education:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Information management Sciences or Social Sciences

Fluency in written and spoken English is essential

Language:

Excellent written and spoken English

Fluency in spoken Kiswahili

Skills and competencies

Excellent analytical and report writing skills

Strong community engagement and facilitation skill

Ability to infuse positive energy to the team

Strong verbal and written communication skills. Those who can speak, read and write Somali language will have added advantage.
